update: just befriend [info]playerx_blog thx [info]iceberg!

I've decided to stop cross posting entries here from my blog.  What this means is no more updates about me unless one of you paid Live  Journal users decides to syndicate one of my feeds for me.  I'm a cheapskate and am done posting to Live Journal.  I've even begun the process of importing 700 some odd entries into my blog.  Hopefully this works and my friends "follow" me, I still plan on following them regularly until a better way to read up on my friends is developed.

here is a program to use on your microsoft pc, that will block access to specified programs for a set period of time.  it's called temptation blocker.  seems nifty enough, but I can't use it.

so i took 2 hours to download the free time limited dvd image that is windows vista some beta, some release canidate, what have you, burn was good, and tried to boot the installer, and then i was presented with this nice error.

"The file Wdsutil.dll could no be loaded or is corrupt.  Setup cannot continue.  Error code [126]"

Gee thanks, for wasting my dvd-r media thus far.

so i decided to see if F8 at boot, will get me a menu like a good windows should.  it's kind of tricky, once it prompts you to boot the dvd, you have ~3 sec to hit the F8 button, _one time_ no more no less.

If you press F8 twice you go to an "advanced boot" menu, which takes a bit of time to load.  here your presented with the usual array of windows boot options, safe, safe with networking, boot logging, low res video, last known good, debugging mode. (hmmm), and disable signature enforcements, or just start like normal.

I wish this error message was more intelligent:
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:81
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
Syntax OK

So if you ever make an apache config file tester, please make sure to test for this condition which is in the manual.

Error condition

Multiple Listen directives for the same ip address and port will result in an Address already in use error message.

i just stumbled across this site.  they use the split screen techniques to make neat movies.
it bugs me that they all seem to be quicktime or windows media.  which can be a pain when using linux.

here's a random musical podcast i just found, i'm guessing he just recorded a set.  pretty good stuff.  i prefer the 2nd half of the set (starting around 29:40), as i really like breaks, simply jeff, and mr oizo.  unfortunately, it becomes DJ trainwreck around 34min.

found dog update.

Jun. 2nd, 2006 | 09:44 am

animal control just came by to pickup the rottweiler puppy.  he didn't have a chip. :(
he didnt tear up my dad's backyard durring his brief stay, and he was very friendly with the two officers who picked him up.  so hopefuly if no one claims him, he will find a good home.
*good thoughts*

found dog!

Jun. 2nd, 2006 | 06:00 am

well last night, i saw a couple stray dogs run down my street into the cul-de-sac.  as with the last stray i tried to get both of them so they dont get hurt on the semi major street that runs next to my home.  i was unable to get them last night, but this morning, one of them was still wandering around.  i went inside, got a bisket, and dog collar, and went off to fetch the dog.  it took me about 10 minutes to get the dog, and put him in the backyard while i wait for animal control to open.  i got him a bowl of food, and some water.  and brushed him for bout 20minutes on and off.  i think the dog is a rottweiler, and he's wearing a red collar.  i'm guessing a puppy, coz he seems kinda small with big paws.  but he definately hasnt had anything to eat as of recently, coz he mowed down the first bisket i gave him, and half the food bowl.

but yea, he's skinny, friendly, nice, and loves attention.  i hope his owner is missing him, and that he gets to go home soon.

i highly doubt it, but just for the search engines.  found dog, rottweiller puppy, near 7th and ocotillo, in sierra vista, az.

here are some pictures, and video of the puppy.

friends' laptop

May. 31st, 2006 | 09:42 pm
mood: bored bored

ok, well we ditched windows xp on the laptop, and i decided to reinstall the latest version of ubuntu on it. it runs ubuntu pretty well for being an older system, but linux does love old hardware. i managed to get my Proxim RangeLAN pcmcia 802.11 card to work using wpasupplicant, which apparently is not the default yet for ubuntu. but outside of that, ubuntu managed to detect everything else, including the ATI radeon mobility for xorg. it even setup the power/frequency scaling on the processor; a Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+.  they also want me to install a video player, and some games for entertainment.
